The Fold wall lamp is part of the limited edition lighting collection of the same name, created in collaboration with the Italian design duo Formafantasma and inspired by Henri Matisse's Papiers-découpés.

A versatile piece, our modern wall light adapts to all types of rooms, from the living room to the bedroom, and allows you to change the atmosphere thanks to its adjustable intensity. With its clean and delicate lines, our Fold wall lamp gives a modern and minimalist atmosphere to the room in which it is installed. Its subtle and poetic character can discreetly give to a decoration, the touch of audacity which will make the difference.

Limited edition of 8 copies + 4 artist's proofs.

Each piece is numbered and signed by the designers and Maison Matisse.

Arts and materials

The manufacturing of this lamp required the intervention of six different craftsmen, each bringing their own know-how, combining complexity and innovation.

The metal used for the structure of this piece was first cut using laser technology, very high level of precision.

After being cut and shaped to give life to the design imagined by Formafantasma, the metal is polished and cleaned several times by hand by an expert, to remove the last imperfections of the metal, before being protected by a thin layer of varnish.

The paint is then sprayed on, requiring up to 10 successive coats to bring out the color and achieve the desired effect. A final coat of varnish completes the rendering of the metal, whose unique shine offers spectacular depth effects.
Finally, the different elements of the lamp are assembled by hand, the LED light source is carefully placed, and the paper sheet only needs to be slipped on.

Inspiration

This wall light is part of the Fold collection, a limited edition resulting from the “carte blanche” given to the designer duo Formafantasma to reinterpret Henri Matisse's Cut-outs work.

The theme of Cut-outs is essential in the life of the artist, since it is this very practice that allowed him to be "reborn", both personally and artistically, following a long convalescence that forced him to stay in bed.

This technique, offering the painter a perfect balance between form and color, intrigued the Formafantasma, and inspired them to create the Fold collection, of which the Fold wall light is part.

By combining Matisse's Cut-outs with the use of steel, whose cutting, folding, texture and transparency they studied, the designer duo achieved a piece that reveals the balance so sought after by the painter.
