Description

The Coquillage rug is a decorative piece that is the result of a meeting between art and craft. British designer Faye Toogood created this rug inspired by Henri Matisse's black and white drawings to create organic shapes and harmonious curves. The choice of hand-tufted wool allows for a high quality of weave that ensures both durability and a pleasant feel.

The Coquillage rug brings a touch of sophistication and elegance to any interior, creating an environment conducive to relaxation and serenity. It blends perfectly with modern, minimalist, bohemian or traditional interior styles. A unique and artistic interior design element, it is capable of transforming any room into a refined and inspiring space, thanks to its free and singular form.

Handcrafted by CC's Tibetan artisans, it is a testament to the quality and durability of the materials chosen by their workshop. It can be used as a centerpiece in large spaces or as a decorative element in smaller interiors, or can be placed in a living room to add an artistic touch, as well as in a bedroom to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Maintenance advice
Maison Matisse recommends vacuuming carpets at least once a week. Do not dry clean them. During the first few months, the carpet will "shed" some fibres or lint, which is only natural, the more the carpet is used, the sooner this will end. An underlay is recommended for all our carpets to prevent them from slipping. Prolonged exposure of the products to direct sunlight may alter the colour of the pieces.

Arts and materials

The Coquillage carpet is hand-tufted by Tibetan artisans from the Italian manufacturer CC-tapis, using undyed wool threads.
Hand-tufting is an extremely fine and complex production technique that gives our carpets exceptional quality.

The CC-carpet workshops follow a set of environmentally friendly rules at every stage of production, whether it be the choice of indigenous Himalayan wools, the use of filtered rainwater, and above all the abolition of the use of any chemical or artificial product.

Inspiration

Faye Toogood drew inspiration from the shell depicted in Matisse's work, and by spontaneously reinterpreting its curves, she arrived at a pattern that she was able to reproduce on this carpet.

The various shades of brown refer to the naturalness of the pure thread vellum page on which Matisse painted his still lifes.
